The Men’s Shed is an open and inclusive community where men with learning disabilities can come together, build friendships, and learn practical skills.  It offers a safe and supportive setting that encourages emotional wellbeing, helps prevent loneliness, and reduces social isolation.

Men’s Shed

The Men’s Shed is a welcoming and inclusive space specifically designed for men with learning disabilities to connect, share experiences, and develop practical skills. It provides a supportive environment that promotes emotional wellbeing, reduces loneliness, and addresses social isolation.

Through a range of activities, shedders are encouraged to build friendships, learn new skills, and gain a sense of purpose and belonging within the community. The Men’s Shed fosters peer support, boosts confidence, and creates meaningful opportunities for social engagement in a relaxed, non-judgmental setting.

Session times:

Monday – Friday 10am-2pm

Based at:

Unit 2 Wallace studios, Wallace Avenue, Lisburn, BT27 4AE

Cost:

There is no cost to shedders. Places are available as part of a contracted programme  with the South Eastern Health Trust or there is also the option to apply for a Self-Directed Support Managed Budget. Certain activities are not funded and participants are asked to pay  eg refreshments when out for the day, bus tickets or entry to certain places.

Transport:

Transport is not available to any of our services however we have a travel training programme if participants would like to learn how to travel independently. We can also provide links to local community transport services.

Criteria

  • Reside within the South Eastern trust area.
  • Aged 18+
  • Learning disability is primary disability.
  • Our services are not classed as regulated activity therefore we cannot provide support with personal or medical care or if higher staff ratios are required in relation to mobility or supervision.
