Placement & Employment Success at Nando’s, Derry/Londonderry
Meet Ciaron!
Ciaron joined Orchardville in July 2023 while completing a catering course at North West Regional College. Although he wasn’t fully sure what direction he wanted to take when he first joined, the Orchardville team spent time getting to know Ciaron, exploring his interests, and supporting him to develop his CV and employment goals.
It became clear that a practical work placement would give Ciaron the opportunity to build real experience and gain confidence in a busy, professional environment. Orchardville approached Nando’s in Derry/Londonderry, who were delighted to offer Ciaron a 12-week placement within their kitchen team.
Ciaron embraced the opportunity wholeheartedly. His enthusiasm, reliability and willingness to learn quickly made a strong impression. Over the course of the placement, Ciaron developed an excellent skills base and grew significantly in confidence.
Following the successful completion of his placement, Nando’s recognised Ciaron’s potential and offered him paid employment. He now works every Friday from 14:30–19:00 as a valued Kitchen Assistant.
In his role, Ciaron is responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness in the kitchen, as well as carrying out food preparation tasks. His colleagues describe him as hardworking, meticulous and always eager to learn something new. He is polite, respectful, punctual and a great team player — qualities that have helped him thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Orchardville continues to provide ongoing support, with staff visiting regularly to check in with Ciaron and the Nando’s team. His progress has been fantastic, and both Orchardville and Nando’s are extremely proud of how far he has come.
Ciaron’s journey shows the real impact of the SkillSET project — helping young people build practical skills, gain confidence and move into meaningful employment through the support of excellent employer partners.
